Custodial Position
College Baptist Church, Hillsdale, MI
College Baptist Church (CBC) is seeking a custodian to work in our church approximately 20 hours a week. Schedule is flexible to meet ministry and personal needs. (Typically 20-25 hours/week during the academic year and 15-20 hours/week during the non-academic year)
Purpose To provide custodial services and basic maintenance support.
Pay Rate Starting rate is $16.50/hour. One week paid vacation. Unpaid leave by arrangement.
Qualifications You must possess the following in order to be a valid candidate for this position.
1. A credible profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. A patient, friendly, and hospitable attitude.
3. Custodial and maintenance experience preferred
4. Strong skills in organization, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
Basic Outline of Duties
The custodian oversees all custodial activities of the church under the oversight of the Trustee Board and Pastor. He or she also interacts and coordinates with other staff and ministry leaders. The following is a brief and not exhaustive outline of the custodian’s duties.
1. Clean all floors—weekly or more as needed.
2. Clean and maintain the sanctuary—before and between services.
3. Clean bathrooms—weekly or more as needed.
4. Clean entranceways, stairwells, and hallways.
5. Clean exterior entryway windows monthly and interior entryway windows weekly or more as needed.
6. Clean tables and windowsills, remove trash, and sweep in church offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms.
7. Set up tables and chairs for group meetings and special events.
8. Coordinate set-ups for special events and congregational dinners with secretary and group leaders.
9. Maintain attendance books—deliver completed sheets to Pastor and restock as necessary.
10. Order supplies needed to clean church, stock bathrooms, and wash windows.
11. Coordinate with wedding liaison for wedding arrangements—approximately 3-6 weddings/year.
12. Change light bulbs and furnace filters.
13. Take trash and recyclables to curb on designated days.
